Are you frustrated with daily junk messages that come in from all the major job sites, and having your resume rejected? Hoping for a job search tool that actually works? I fell upon an interesting job search app this week called Remote Rocketship. It appears to be run by this enthusiastic programmer guy, Lior Nu-ner. I paid the monthly fee so you don’t have to. Thought I’d share what it’s all about. Here’s my Remote Rocketship review.
Remote Rocketship is for remote job seekers
So, I’m not sure how this happened exactly, but I believe I was on LinkedIn when somehow I was alerted to this new site called Remote Rocketship. YES, it is AI-powered. The app’s creator claims that his software attracts companies that hire remote workers as a general rule, and who are less likely to post their jobs on LinkedIn and Indeed. (We’re trying to get away from those spammy sites – they’re not yielding for freelancers OR full-time job seekers.)
What types of jobs can you find on Remote Rocketship?
Remote rocketship seems to have an inside connection to companies posting jobs for the following:
- content writers
- web developers
- coders
- virtual assistant
- software programmers
- marketing managers
- social media managers
…all of those jobs none of us can seem to find or get hired for online.
I signed up for Remote Rocketship, here’s how it’s gone so far
December is probably not the ideal month to gauge opportunities on a remote work site. But, I knew if I didn’t act immediately this opportunity was going to pass me by. So I paid the 20-something (I think it may have been $21 or $22 per month?) to jump on the Remote Rocketship. Here’s how it went:
It was relatively easy to input my job search criteria.
It appears that the more keywords you add into a single job search, the more results get spit back to you, and this can be overwhelming (probably the case for most of these aggregate sites, but the simple way this one was set up made it more clear).
I noticed right away that you can only “save” one job search at a time.
I don’t know if other job seekers would want a way to save multiple job searches. I also don’t know if maybe upgrading the membership to a higher price point would unlock that feature? For now, I’m staying with the basic search. It works well if you only type in one keyword phrase.
I really did find some good-sounding remote jobs
Here are the types of companies I saw posting content manager jobs:
- Small to mid-sized natural supplements company
- Well-known fashion clothing brand
- Marketing agency that’s outsourced by big brands for creative work
- Pet products supplier
- Saas tech companies
- Fintech websites
- Many more that I only glanced at before refining my search
Remote Rocketship Helps You Refine Resume Keywords to Get Past ATS
Remote Rocketship has a bonus feature – it does the keyword match for you, and rates your resume on a point scale, accordingly.
Let me explain how this works. Log onto their app, and type in your job search criteria. Their app serves up some posted jobs that match your query. If you click on one of the job postings, the Remote Rocketship app tallies up your resume score instantly, based on how many words match their job listing.
The higher your score, the more likely their ATS is likely to push your resume through as a potential candidate.
The first job I clicked on rated my resume at 60 points. Not bad. I got the green light that this would likely get me past ATS.
In a prior post on Dina’s List, I talked about how this guy I know who holds a senior position in HR and the advice he gave me. He recommended to reverse-engineer your resume’s keywords to ding the right terms for a specific job you pan to apply to. That’s how to get around ATS.
So, clearly, Remote Rocketship supports that with their rating system.
This information automatically tallied up for me after I found a job that looked like I might want to apply, and then uploaded my resume. Their software compared the existing keywords in the job with the existing keywords in my resume to see how likely it was that their ATS was going to accept versus reject my application.
This is the exact formula that I was told to use by this high-ranking HR dude who works in Tech. He said to look for the keywords in their job posting and then add them to a customized resume file of yours before uploading it and applying to the job in question.
I’ll let you know how the Remote Rocketship remote work search goes for me
I ony did my Remote Rocketship job search last night, and for one keyword phrase, as mentioned. So there’s still a lot of potential for this app to be a great thing. Not sure yet, but the app creator Lior has met a pain point with his product which is HUGE.
He managed to do what I’ve been wanting to do, which is:
- Attract a higher caliber of client
- Avoid posting fake jobs and junk jobs
- Share a good variety of remote jobs that need to be filled in a timely fashion
- Fine-tune your resume thanks to his handy keyword match/ATS scoring system
