picky in your job search

Are You Picky in Your Job Search or Hunt for Freelance Gigs?

Who else is STILL selective in which companies they apply to, despite the current state of the economy? I am. Why? Because I want to be on the same mental wavelength of the people I work with every day. Because people aren’t all the same.

You want to be surrounded by kindred spirits at your job… people whose goals and values align with yours. People whose energy matches yours. People who value what you value, people who communicate the same way that you do, and who will respect you for expressing yourself in the way that you choose to speak and write.

People who will appreciate that you have questions, that you care, that you can see the big picture in the small details… people who won’t dismiss or laugh at your ideas.

These things really matter to me. They make the difference between springing out of bed each day, fueled with purpose for the work you do, versus dreading and loathing the daily, gargantuan task of trying to make yourself heard and understood by coworkers who simply don’t get you.

Do you really look at and examine the functionality, communication, mission and values behind a company and what they do? Do their actions make sense? Do you nod your head at what they say and how they say it?

When you visit their company and observe its daily workings, can you picture yourself inserted into the scene?

All of that, for me, shapes my decision to custom-craft the cover letter message, make a strong effort to speak directly to their manager and team, and hit SUBMIT on my resume.

How about you? Are you picky in your job search or hunt for freelance gigs?
