One tactic that bigger companies are doing right now is posting jobs, acting like they’re about to hire, having you in for an interview but then saying “oh sorry, you didn’t make it but please continue to apply in the future.”
If you watch closely it doesn’t seem that they actually have a job available. It seems like they only want to round up some candidates.
This is not personal to you at all. But it IS wildly annoying from the perspective of someone who might really be feeling a panic about finding a job or some paid work ASAP.
So the job recruitment strategy… there’s also a weird psychology behind it.
Because if as a candidate, you go through all the trouble of interviewing and then you get that rejection letter… you’re going to think in your head:
“Hey, why not me? Why didn’t you hire me!?”
Then you’re going to want what you can’t have. But they’re making you wait, you see?
They’re making you work for it. You will think that you won after they get you in a few months, for that measly $15 an hour job.
And you’ll totally forget that $15 an hour is about $22,000 a year take home pay.
Back to the job search psychology, you didn’t get hired and you’re annoyed.
So you take a week off, and you recover from the rejection letter.
And you reread their email, and you think “oh, well… perhaps I have a chance in the future.”
Meanwhile they have you on file now. And maybe you make some improvements to your resume, and maybe they do another hiring event or post a new job that you could qualify for.
And now you’re hoping, and you’re thinking “hey maybe this time,” and you’re chopping at the bit a little bit. And they have you.
Or not. If they don’t have you, they have the next guy. So they don’t need you, but you need them. Do you see how this is working?
There’s nothing actually wrong with this, technically. But it does give a certain type of impression which is misleading.
It’s really quite audacious if you ask me.
It means a lot, and I mean a LOT of our time is being wasted by these job sites, and hiring companies and all their little tricks, and their need to harvest our information to SAVE, but not actually use our God-given talent and skill.
So this is why I’m fed up, and I bet you are, too.
I think it’s time to take matters into our own hands and go get some freelance work.
And to do that, we need to take a direct shot to get noticed by the humans who do the hiring.
Contact Names and Emails of Hiring People is what we need. So I’m going to get some for us all.
And we’re going to pitch the contacts directly, and we’re going to bypass the websites, because they’re not working for anybody.
We will approach this step by step in my freelance group. We’re all going to do this, if you want to join me.
I’ve only just started the list 2 days ago. But I’ve been in freelance for 20 years, and I know a lot of people. And I’d love to add you to my list of real human beings.
So I invite you to jump on this freelance roller coaster, and hang on for the ride.
Let’s set some goals and jump some hurdles together.
I believe that only good things could come from our association, and there’s power in numbers.
So instead of being beholden to the computers driving the job market, which as any of us can see, is clearly not working, and letting them mess with your head and keep you stuck in a world of fake jobs and spam texts…
Come with me. Just sign up for Dina’s List.
For my first opt-in, I’m going to be sending a list of contacts at big companies.
Get your resume and portfolio together in the meantime.
Then you’ll be ready to take action.
I won’t send out daily emails like some of my other lists, so don’t worry about that.
And I will never and I mean never, sell or share your info.
I do have a fairly complicated freelancer vetting process.
I want all the information; like full name, address, your company name, your website URL if you have a business online or if you have a freelance portfolio, and all the good stuff.
It’s all on the form that I need you to fill out if you want to join my freelance network.
That’s the only way I’m going to be able to distinguish real people from fake profiles. I don’t want any fakes on my list. I’m done with all that.
Sign up for Dina’s List if you freelance, or think you might start.
I’ll talk to you soon. And I’ll email you that list of contacts as soon as I’m finished researching.
Then after that maybe we’ll start our project fixing our resumes! It’s going to be fun.
We’re going to set goals to make money freelancing.
I hope to see you.
Dina
